what is the best and cheapest way to store a large amount of bottles of wine?

by cheapest i mean i dont have alot of money to buy a 100 bottle wine fridge , and im not even sure what temperature i can store wine at for long periods of time anyways , would a regular fridge store wine for a long time without it spoiling? im open for any suggestions

You could store 100 bottles of wine in a regular fridge if you monitor the temperature and keep it at around 54 degrees F. Don’t let it get above 75 degrees F or the wine begins to oxidize and will loose its flavor or spoil. If you basement is constantly changing temperatures, i wouldn’t recommend storing you wine there as you want to keep the temperature as consistent as possible. It should fluctuate more than 3 degree F per day or 5 degrees F per year. Red wines are more sensitive to this than white wines.

If you don’t have a wine cooler or wine cellar, you can create a makeshift wine cellar with a closet. Use a closet on the ground floor, put foam board on the walls as insulation, replace the wood closet door with an insulated steel door, glue foam around the new door as well, and add weather stripping to the edges of the door so no air or heat can get in. Keep the temperature of the closet cool with ice packets or even a little AC unit.

General tips:
1. Store the Wine Bottles on their side
2. Keep the wine in the dark, away from light and UV rays
3. Keep the room’s humidity level around 70% to keep the cork from drying out
4. Don’t store wine next to strong smelling items or in musty rooms/closets – the smell will penetrate the wine
